A very exciting opening game to the 2008 - 2009 season ended in a 4-3 win to Marshfield.
Marshfield felt their way into the game and soon found that running the length of the pitch was quite taxing.
Melksham Park had already played and won their first league match last week against Chippenham.
Melksham used this experience to good effect and forced Marshfield to play much of the game in their own half.
This ensured that Marshfield spent considerable amounts of the first half on the back foot and finding it difficult to clear their lines.
Alex made a number of saves and Will B made a number of well timed tackles. Unfortunately the Melksham pressure was converted into two well taken goals.

Substitutions were made with JoeMu coming on who started to settle the midfield down and started to play some probing passes for the attackers to run on to.
The defensive four of Wiil T, Asmara, Cameron and Jeremy started to push up and become solid with each of them making a number of timely tackles outside the penalty area. Once Will B came back on for the last 5 minutes playing at centre forward meant that the probing passes from JoeMu and Tom could be converted into pressure on the Melksham goal. This pressure was converted into two well taken goals by JoeMu and Ed. Marshfield were now in the ascendency and went in at halftime with their tails up.
The second half started with Miles in goal and Marshfield on the attack. Marshfield continued were they left off in the second half attacking from the half way line with Charlie Will B and Ed linking well and coming very close to taking the lead, The Melksham goalkeeper made a number of brave saves at the feet of the Marshfield strikers. Marshfield then took the lead through Charlie with a well taken goal. Melksham continued to compete and started to put Marshfield under pressure, Miles fielded a number of balls and cleared from his hands very well. Marshfield were caught by Melksham and failed to clear the ball and eventually they manged to contrive to kick the ball at a Melksham attacker and the ball ballooned over Miles and into the goal 3-3. More substitutions with Jack and JoeMo back on the pitch. JoeMo used his stamina well and made a number of probing runs from midfield. Once again Marshfield started some short accurate passing which allowed JoeMo to play balls behind the Melksham defence form Will B to run on to. Eventually the pressure told and Will B converted for Marshfield to take the lead. Melksham however had not given up and continued to press forcing a last minute corner that the Marshfield defence just managed to cope with and were unlucky not to score from the resulting break. Soon after Matt blew the final whistle and Marshfield had won.Smile
Well done to both sides I think that all of the parents and other spectators were impressed with the way both teams played and competed.
Thanks and well done to Matt and his linesmen for allowing the game to flow.
